They say that a diamond is forever, but given the track record of the breakups on ABC’s the Bachelor, perhaps it isn’t so when it comes to TV engagements. Over the 15 seasons of The Bachelor, designers such as Harry Winston, Tacori, and Neil Lane provided the whopping engagement rings, all distinct and definitely stunners. And of the 15 rings, most, if not all, have been returned. Let’s rewind back to the first few seasons and check out the baubles the winners did (and did not) receive. And keep in mind who pays for the ring: not the Bachelor! In the real world, the rings would most probably have been half as big.
Season 1: Alex Michel and Amanda Marsh
Ring: Supposedly “breath taking and mega-expensive”.
Season 2: Aaron Buerge and Helene Eksterowicz
Ring: 2.75 carat Harry Winston oval diamond on platinum valued at $29,000. The only ring in Bachelor history paid for by the bachelor himself. When they broke up, the couple decided to see the ring on Ebay and received $28,300. They split the profits.
Season 3: Andrew Firestone and Jen Scheft
Ring: 2.8 carat Harry Winston
Season 4: Bob Guiney and Estella Gardinier
Ring: 2.07 carat cushion cut Harry Winston set in platinum. Appraised value is $42,000. Estella auctioned off the ring.
Season 5: Jesse Palmer and Jessica Bowlin
Ring: No engagement ring! Instead, he gave her a one-way ticket to New York — first class.
Season 6: Byron Velvick and Mary Delgado
Ring: Tacori 3.5 carat set in platinum. Style #: HT2353. Mary was arrested multiple times during their relationship, once splitting his lip with her engagement ring.
